Praia do Norte is shaped by the canyon, the beach and the arriving swell. An offshore model cannot tell you the exact size of a wave breaking here.
Period & direction
Longer periods indicate more widely spaced waves and, at the same height, a more energetic swell. Direction tells you where it comes from.
Wind & local conditions
Wind affects the surface and how waves break. A favourable wind does not make a powerful swell safe to enter.
